Weekly MedTech Round-up - Week 28, 2025
Everything that moved the global MedTech market — 7 – 11 July 2025
1. Regulatory wins & first-in-human moments
MatOrtho – ReCerf™ hip resurfacing returns to Europe. A fresh CE mark lets surgeons once again offer BIOLOX-delta ceramic resurfacing to active patients who want to preserve bone and avoid metal ions.
Boston Scientific – Farapulse® label expanded. FDA now allows treatment of both paroxysmal and persistent AF, cementing pulsed-field ablation as a mainstream option.
Mendaera – Focalist™ handheld robot 510(k). A palm-sized device that marries ultrasound with micro-robotics to guide needles in MSK, pain and oncology procedures.
Exactech – Equinoxe® scapular-reconstruction 510(k). First dedicated system for acromial and scap-spine fractures after shoulder arthroplasty.
Hypervision Surgical – HYPERSNAP® 510(k). The first FDA-cleared hyperspectral/AI platform for real-time tissue oxygenation, complete with a brand-new product code.
Aktiia – G0 cuff-less BP monitor cleared for OTC use. The U.S.’s first continuous, calibration-free blood-pressure device that consumers can buy off-shelf.
Synchrony Medical – LibAirty™ airway-clearance 510(k). Company claims twice the efficacy of traditional vest therapy for COPD, bronchiectasis and CF.
CorWave – world-first LVAD implant. An undulating-membrane heart pump entered its first patient, aiming to reduce haemolysis and preserve native flow patterns.
CorFlow – IDE green-light for MOCA-II pivotal trial. Study will test micro-vascular obstruction therapy in post-MI patients.
Medtronic – first patient in Spyral Gemini multi-organ denervation pilot for stubborn hypertension.
Morphic Medical – CE mark for its endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty device targeting class II obesity with a single incision.
SonoClear – FDA Breakthrough Designation for acoustic guidance that aims to make “leave-no-tumour” brain surgery routine.
ArteraAI – Breakthrough Device for biopsy-based prostate therapy response prediction.
Radical Catheter Technologies – strong early data for its 8 F neurovascular guide catheter in complex anatomies.
InspireMD – CGuard Prime carotid stent launches in the U.S.
SS Innovations – first robotic telesurgery weight-loss case performed.
Miach BEAR® two-year ACL data, Lifecare ASA RF compliance for its wireless CGM, and MediView XR kicking off a 104-patient holographic navigation study round out the clinical slate.
2. Commercial launches & digital health
SoundHealth releases an Android companion app for its FDA-cleared SONU tinnitus headband.
Skin Moderne unveils a plant-derived Exosomes Regenerative Complex for advanced dermal renewal protocols.
EnteraSense wins activation of CPT 0977T, letting U.S. hospitals bill for the PillSense rapid GI-bleed detection capsule.
Eko Health secures the first national CMS reimbursement for AI cardiac-murmur and valvular-disease detection through its digital stethoscope platform.
OraSure launches a novel blood-collection device aimed at proteomic research workflows.
Blue Box Biomedical Solutions celebrates continued investor backing as it readies a urine-based breast-cancer test with 88 % sensitivity.
3. Funding, grants & growth capital
Neuros Medical closes a US $56m Series D (EQT Life Sciences, LSP 7) to commercialise the FDA-approved Altius® nerve-stimulation system for phantom-limb pain.
Restore Medical banks US $23m Series B (Pitango + EIC Fund) to finish its ContraBand™ heart-failure study.
Plexāā secures US $4.5m to launch BLOOM⁴³, the first breast-surgery prep wearable.
Adtec Healthcare raises US $12m for next-gen cold-plasma wound-care devices and FDA push.
PIUR Imaging lands €6.5m (updated figure) to scale tomographic 3-D ultrasound across EU and U.S.
Plasmacure closes a €6m Series A led by Venture Medical for its PLASOMA chronic-wound therapy.
FluidAI Medical wins CA $2m from the Canadian government to expand manufacturing of its postoperative leak sensors.
Amotio (orthopaedic revision), Alva Health (wearable stroke monitor), Escala Medical (Mendit prolapse stapler), Lucida Medical (AI-driven prostate MRI) and Ebenbuild (digital lung twin) share an additional US $10m-plus in non-dilutive grants and seed capital.
A macro-stat: analysts tallied US $1.1 billion in MedTech, Biotech and AI-health financings this week—the best showing since early 2022.
4. M&A, spin-outs & strategic moves
Alcon reaches a deal to acquire LumiThera, bringing photobiomodulation for dry AMD into its eye-care arsenal.
Innovia Medical snaps up Grace Medical (ENT) and Hurricane Medical (ophthalmology), assembling a multi-specialty surgical platform.
Companion Spine agrees to buy Coflex®/CoFix® posterior-dynamic devices and Paradigm Spine’s OUS businesses from Xtant Medical; closing due Q3.
Gilde Healthcare merges Artinis with NIRx to form a global leader in functional near-infrared spectroscopy.
Sectoral Asset Management launches Leaflet Solutions to develop Scalarto, a catheter designed to widen TAVI eligibility.
Ventripoint Diagnostics signs a term sheet with Lishman Global to re-license its VMS+ AI echo platform across China—investment and a purchase order included.
5. People & talent
Big chairs first: Andrew Hider (Baxter CEO-elect), Martha Aronson (incoming Merit Medical CEO), David Carey (Preceptis Medical CEO) and Bilal Muhsin (ex-Masimo COO → BD Connected Care boss) lead the marquee moves.
Finance benches deepen with Susan O’Shea as CFO at Pristine Surgical, Chad Spooner as CFO at Medtronic Diabetes, and Adam Kalbermatten taking the CCO remit at KORU Medical.
On the board side, med-tech rainmaker Scott Huennekens lands at Endologix, and software veteran Randy Jordan becomes chair of inHEART.
Further down the org chart, more than 30 regional sales, marketing and strategy appointments pepper LinkedIn feeds—from Smith+Nephew’s robotics division to Life Medical’s BeNeLux sports-medicine launch.
6. Three signals worth tracking
Insight beats hardware. Products winning clearance pulsed-field ablation, hyperspectral vision, cuff-less haemodynamics sell analysis, not metal. Expect 2026 pipelines to be judged on embedded algorithms more than mechanical prowess.
Milestone money over mega-rounds. Apart from Neuros Medical, most cheques landed in the US $4m–23m window. Investors want IDE approvals, CMS codes and first-in-humans before scaling capital.
Regulation as moat. Companies that mastered MDR recertification (MatOrtho) or created brand-new FDA product codes (Hypervision, Aktiia) just bought themselves a multi-quarter head-start over the pack.
